THE JOHNSON SOCIETY OF LONDON
Annual commemoration 202
The Society’s annual Johnson commemoration and reception will take place on Saturday, 14 December, 2024.
The wreath-laying will take place at 2:00 pm at Westminster Abbey, when the wreath will be laid by our guest of honour, Professor Freya Johnston. Professor Johnston is a Fellow of St Anne’s College, Oxford. Her publications include Samuel Johnson and the Art of Sinking 1709–1791, Jane Austen, Early and Late and (as co-editor) Samuel Johnson: The Arc of the Pendulum. She is co-editor of the journal Essays in Criticism.
The afternoon events will take place at Dr Johnson’s House, 17 Gough Square, London, EC4A 3DE. Following the wreath-laying, those attending should make their way to the House, where you will be welcomed with tea or coffee and a mince pie.
At 3:30 pm Professor Johnston will give a presentation entitled ‘Johnson’s Community’, in the garret at Dr Johnson’s House.
A reception in the House will follow from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. This will consist of hot and cold canapés and wine. The cost of attendance will be £45 per head.
If you wish to attend, please book by 16 November. In order to book, please complete the form below and send it to Celine Luppo McDaid at director@drjohnsonshouse.org. Payment should be made according to the instructions on the form.
Please note that in the event of cancellation after 31 November, payments cannot be refunded. The Society has to confirm to the caterers numbers attending (and pay for that number).
